Meet Jennifer
Meet JenniferJennifer is a remarkable woman.  At an early age, she made the decision that she did not want children.  However, life rarely unfolds as we have it planned out.  In those following years, Jennifer would watch a movie that would forever change her life and lead her to consider adoption as an option.  Today, the lady who didn't want children is a wonderful mother. Jennifer has six foster children whom she is in the process of adopting.  A graduate of Southeast Missouri State University, hard-working, determined and focused all describe Jennifer.

When Jennifer heard about Habitat for Humanity from a cousin, she thought that this would provide her with the perfect opportunity to provide a home for her family.  Jennifer has a steady income. She fell within Habitat's income guidelines and not only was she willing and able to partner with Habitat to build up her sweat equity hours, she may well have reached those needed hours in record time.  Perhaps you had the chance to meet Jennifer as she achieved a number of her hours volunteering at Habitat's Restore.

Jennifer exemplifies one of Habitat's core beliefs, it's not about giving a hand out, it is all about giving a hand up.  In this case, a hand up to a woman who has made an incredible difference in the lives of six young children.  Six children, who without Jennifer would still likely be in the foster system.  Six young children who, thanks to your support, will soon call a Habitat house ... Home!

When you hear about volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, the first thought that might come to mind is a hammer and nails.  While our volunteers that help with the actual construction of our homes are invaluable, so are the countless volunteers that help our organization in other ways as well.

Meet Mike Baughman.  Mike, a truck driver from Perryville, MO, injured his back on the job.  After a great deal of therapy, he was cleared to perform light duty work prior to being able to return to the rigors of his old job.  Mike drives down from Perryville 4 days a week and volunteers at Habitat for Humanity's Cape Girardeau Restore.  Here, you'll find him opening boxes, pricing items, placing items for sale on the store's shelves, organizing items and more.  Mike Baughman has been a great asset and an invaluable volunteer.

The Habitat vision sees a world in which everyone has a decent place to live.  Our mission seeks to put God's love into action by bringing people together to build homes, communities and hope.  We can only accomplish that mission with the help and support of caring volunteers that serve in a myriad of ways.

So, in the future, when you hear about volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, know that opportunities abound.  Would you like to volunteer?  Whether you pick up a hammer or a pricing gun, nails or pricing labels, a sheet of plywood or a mop, know that your willingness to serve as a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity makes a very real difference!
