A Time for Giving Thanks
This month, we have seen many of our “Facebook Friends” giving thanks each day for the blessings in their lives and of course, next week, families all over the US will sit down for a time of togetherness and thanksgiving. We here at Habitat have much to be thankful for and would like to share our thanks for the many blessings we have experienced this year.
First, we are thankful for the wonderful support we receive from our community. Anyone who lives in the Cape Girardeau area has experienced this sense of community spirit and support and we undoubtedly benefit from such generous residents, businesses and organizations. A Habitat home is a home that is built by a village, and so many in our area have assisted us in our mission – through volunteering, referring partner families, donating to the ReStore and our building fund, shopping at the ReStore and sponsoring and assisting with special events.
We are grateful for each and every Habitat homeowner and their families. We are proud of our partner families and the hard work they put into achieving the dream of home ownership. Our families continue to “pay it forward” as they come back year after year to support new families in their path to ownership and they help spread the Habitat mission.
We are thankful to all of the kind and welcoming neighbors that surround our Habitat homeowners. We are grateful to you for welcoming these families into your communities and supporting them as they become responsible homeowners. Many organizations and individuals take the time to attend each home dedication and provide a personal welcome to our families into their homes and we are so grateful for these good wishes.
We are grateful for the time and talents of the many skilled professionals that contribute to the building of our homes – from university students and faculty to our wonderful contractors, plumbers, electricians and landscapers – you make the creation of these homes come to life!
And of course we are incredibly blessed with a devoted staff and committed Board of Directors. Each of these individuals works many hours to ensure that we can assist and reach as many families as possible. Under their leadership, our affiliate continues to grow and we thank them for their time, talent and commitment to Habitat for Humanity.
We have much to be grateful for at Cape Area Habitat for Humanity and we hope that 2012 will prove to be another year of growth for our affiliate. However, as we observe the holiday season, we are mindful of the many families around the world that continue to struggle to find secure housing and we pray that each of them will find a home. We hope that the mission of Habitat for Humanity – that every man, woman and child should have a safe, secure place to live – will be fulfilled in the near future.
From all of us at Cape Area Habitat for Humanity - Happy Holidays and THANK YOU for your continued support.
September 8, 2011 - It’s all about the ReStore
Did you know that Cape Area Habitat for Humanity has a store? Have you always wanted to come check out the ReStore? Wondering where we are, when we’re open and what we sell? Want to donate? Hopefully, this month’s post can answer all of those questions and more!
We at Habitat for Humanity are so lucky to have a ReStore operation on site. Our resale stores benefit Habitat and the surrounding community in three important ways:
First, we give new life to goods that may have otherwise been thrown away. By accepting and reselling used furniture, appliances and building supplies, we’re helping our community stay green!
Second, we provide wonderful goods at a great savings. Need a new refrigerator? Want to furnish a new apartment? Need a sofa for that basement playroom? Want to refresh the lighting or fixtures in your home? Come see us! We can help you find what you need at a great price!
Finally, our ReStore supports our Habitat operation AND builds homes! Thanks to our ReStore, we are able to sustain our operations and ensure that donations go directly to building homes for our partner families. In addition, the ReStore also helps sustain our building fund.
The goods in our Restore change from week to week, so you never know what you might find!
Want to donate? Give us a call! If you need to schedule a pick-up, we’re happy to come take the donation from your home.
Want to shop? We’re open to the public on Thursdays 12p-8pm, Fridays 12pm-5pm and Saturdays 10am-1pm. Come see us at our location at 2365 Rust Avenue!
Want more information? Check out the ReStore’s website and like us on facebook. We post photos of new items regularly and keep those sites updates with new information!
August 18, 2011 - What’s happening at Habitat?
Welcome to our first online blog and newsletter! We are so excited at Habitat to have a fresh “face” with our updated website, and look forward to finding new ways to share our mission. Although the website is new, our work here at Habitat is not. We are completing house number forty-six and are preparing to break ground on number forty-seven shortly. We continue to seek new partner families, volunteers and supporters. The ReStore continues to grow, and we are excited to see new customers and familiar faces each week.
We are especially conscious of our mission as children go back to school all over Southeast Missouri this week. Studies show that a secure, stable home environment is one of the keys to success for children. Yet, we also know that many children in our area lack a place of refuge at the end of the day – somewhere to read, study, play and live with their families. It is our hope that we can continue to find these families, and to provide not just a better living situation, but a better future for all of our homeowners.
To that end, we seek the help of our many supporters. We often get questions about how to support Habitat and there are a number of ways you can help us provide homes for those in need:
Donate: We accept tax deductible cash donations, donations of items to the ReStore for resale, lots and gifts in kind. We also have several upcoming fundraisers, for which we are actively seeking sponsors.
Volunteer: We rely on volunteer labor to build all of our homes. If you or your organization would like to volunteer on a job site, we would love for you to join us!
Refer: Do you know someone currently living in an insecure environment? Check out our homeowner guidelines and refer them to us to fill out an application.
Shop: Come visit the ReStore! We’re open Thursday and Friday 12pm-5pm and Saturday 10am-1pm. Every dollar spent in the Restore supports our organization.
If any of these support mechanisms appeal to you or your business, please contact us!
Check back here for new updates often and thanks for your support from all of us at Cape Area Habitat for Humanity!
